August 30, 2009

Last week Ragasiya Police 115 was released in Natraj theater. As usual I was late and reached the theater by 6.20 pm. The celebration was already over, MGR image was garlanded.

The talk was about the MGR movies Golden Jubilee Function. I was busy in editing the photos of the Golden Jubilee that is the reason I was not able to upload this movie release.

Re-release Thaai Sollai Thattadhe

September 21, 2008

Two weeks back MGR movie “Kumari Kottam” was re-released in Natraj theatre, but I was not able to reach the venue. This week brand new print Devar Films “Thaai Sollai Thattadhe” was re-released.

MGR movie Ad was placed in Daily Thanthi Vellore Edition not in Chennai. There was less posters and only one type is printed but the crowd was huge.

I reached the venue 5.25 p.m. B.S.Raj and Sathya was already present. The happy news is that the Special edition of Nadodi Mannan will be released this week overcoming the hurdles which I will tell in my future post.

Matinee show was almost full I find people coming out of the theatre their profession were painter, tailor, rickshaw puller, street vendor etc. and large number of women. The character enacted by MGR in his movies has these professions. There was no new MGR movie after 31 years but still people are crazy about him because he told their problem, he gave confidence to them through his songs and dialogues. His presence is still felt.

Old MGR fans were talking about this movie and the records, the cinema halls, and they showed paper cuts. Another set of people were enquiring about the Re-release of ‘Ulagam Sutrum Valiban”. The probable date is October 3rd or October 10th. The movie will be released simultaneously in 10 theatres in and around Chennai.

Re-Release Ithayakani – Natraj Theatre

July 21, 2008

Prelude to future post:

MGR Fan Mr.K.P.Ramesh visited Chennai and we had planned to meet him in MGR Square. The time fixed was 10 a.m. I reached Marina by 9.30 a.m. from distance I found someone cleaning and garlanding the MGR Statue and continued to the tomb. When I reached the Statue I found it was Sathya. Once a week he regularly visits MGR resting place and washes the tomb. This time I was witnessing. After thorough cleaning he placed a garland and prayed. I found that the whole 10 minutes he did not took his hands from the Tomb. His hands was caressing the stone. Before leaving the tomb he prostrated.

I thought what MGR has done to him or his family. None, but one thing is that he cultivated good human qualities that MGR propagated in his movies. How caring he is to MGR. When I see this I realized one thing – “Petral Than Pillaiya” movie name which turned true to its core.

Sathya Movies “Ithayakani” was released on 18th in Natraj. Two type of posters came out with this movie and the print came from Salem. I was late when I reached Natraj theatre. The function was already halfway.

As usual Kalaiventhan MGR bakthargal and Ponmanachemmal MGR Bakthargal has placed placards.

Check enjoyment of MGR Fans.

This is the opening scene of the movie. I paused several times to change the position and cover the fans and as well as the song and dialogues by MGR.

Sathya garlanded MGR with 6 different garlands.

Matinee show was house full I saw more number of auto drivers and cart pullers getting out of the theater.

B.S.Raj issued leaflets describing the success of 1974 MGR movies including Netru Indru Nalai.

Lathi charge was done by theater management to control the crowd near the counter were everyone rushed to get the ticket in hurry.

Ticket rate is Rs.12/- and Rs.15/- the show was full. The film rental for 1 week is Rs.8,000/- excluding posters, photos and publicity. The collection for 3 days (Friday, Saturday and Sunday is Rs.30,000/-)

The movie has political dialogues including Muster roll scandal, beautiful song numbers, colourful costumes. Though the movie is dual action by MGR there is no scene showing double action MGR only through dialogue that both MGR characters meet.

The Theater management individually released this movie.

Good news for Sivaji Fans that two movies of Sivaji will be released in Natraj soon.

Re-release Periya Idathu Penn

May 14, 2008

Periya Idathu Penn was re-released in Natraj theater this week. The print was brand new. I went and met Yukesh Babu. He guided to take pictures and paper cuts placed in the theater.

The movie was almost full nearly 800 people watched 6.30 show, capacity of 900. Yukesh Babu gave some introduction about new MGR fans who came to see the movie. Out of this crowd two stand apart.

One man was wearing ordinary shirt and the shirt was fully pinned by MGR images, he fired most of the crackers and Yukesh Babu mentioned that he gave sweets to all the fans who came to see Nadodi Mannan previously.

Another MGR fan (very young) who don’t have any house to dwell no family and working as Porter in Central Station. He is a regular viewer of MGR movies. When Yukesh Babu asked him why he likes to watch MGR movies, he said MGR’s face and his songs gives a positive vibration and a strong feeling to live. Believe it or not he has watched the re-release Adimai Penn 12 shows continuously.

The paper cut of Periya Idathu Penn 100 days advertisement.

This is the image of re-release record of ‘Nam Nadu’ which was released when MGR was the Chief Minister.

Yukesh Babu’s father and one of the ardent MGR fan Mr.Bakthavatchalam expired today, we all pray for his soul to rest in peace.
